I am so incredibly proud of him for making it through this first year and a half. He's done SO MUCH WORK y'all. It's been ridiculous and unbelievable and chock-full of long days and late nights and I sure as hell hope that this coming year provides a bit of a slower pace for him. That tiny little black bar was hard-earned and I get butterflies in my stomach whenever I see it on his uniform.
It was also mentioned that we should throw a party for his company to "celebrate" his new pay grade. One soldier yelled out "CHUCK E. CHEESE!" I am thinking we will just ask them to send us the bill rather than eat gross pizza with a giant rat while my son attempts to lick every germ-infested surface available.
It just so happened that Molly's two-week check-up was immediately after the promotion ceremony and I had no time to pump beforehand. That is not to say that there was any shortage of milk (I freeze AT LEAST six ounces daily), but more so to alert you to the fact that I needed this appointment to go quickly so as to not be completely soaked by the time I got home. Did I mention that Molly's doctor is a chatty fellow? Any other day, I would appreciate that. But yesterday... not so much. Luckily we made it home before we drowned in the car.
Molly clocked in at 9lbs 4oz. I was guessing that she was at least 10lbs by now. I mean, the girl can put away some milk. Apparently all of that screaming helps burn it off though.
My mom was here this past week to help with the transition of Steve going back to work. LET ME TELL YOU HOW HELPFUL THAT WAS. I mean, Molly sleeps well for a newborn. At least in my book. My only other newborn experience was Sam, and he woke up every hour, on the hour, for four months straight. So anything more than an hour kinda feels like angels are sprinkling glitter down on us. But Molly has this habit of wanting to be awake from 3-5am every morning. Sometimes longer. And once we finally get her back to sleep, it seems that Sam is waking up. With my mom here, she would get up with Sam in the morning, allowing me to sleep in until Molly woke up. It seems that my new routine might involve drinking heinous amounts of coffee and starting each day at 3am. We shall see.
My mother also performed tasks usually reserved for martyrs when she dealt with Sam during the witching hour, leaving me on the couch with a glass of wine and a sleeping Molly on my chest. To add to her list of achievements: doing diaper laundry multiple times, washing our sheets and clothes, reading the same book to Sam 6,497 times in a row, changing too many poopy diapers (from both children), feeding The Whiny One meals, buckling The Whiny One into his carseat, and accompanying me on a shopping trip to Nashville. By-the-way? The shopping trip to Nashville? WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN SO LONG AS I SHALL LIVE. The only way it will happen is if I weigh as much as my military ID says I do (which, HAHAHAHAHAHA THAT COULD TAKE A VERY LONG TIME). I can buy my kids' clothes online for far cheaper than I can at any of the "factory stores" and trying on clothes for myself two weeks after popping out a kid is like requesting postpartum depression on a silver platter. So while it was definitely an adventure, and I'm glad we got out of the house, I am in no rush to do it again. Especially alone.
I must have cropped her halo out of this photo because it is DEFINITELY floating around up there. |
My mom left to go home today (something about a husband and a job and friends and not enough Diet Coke here). There was lots of whining and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Mostly from me. I am hopeful that we can limp along without her here. But just in case we can't, I'd better go ahead and take that Reester bunny out tonight.
Oh how exciting! Congrats to your hubby!!!! I wish I could have been at my husband's ceremony, but I have a feeling the government wouldn't fly me over there just for that. :) Aww aren't mommies the best?!?! You have two beautiful children!
ReplyDeleteThank you! You're too sweet :) The govt IS stingy with those spouses plane tickets to war zones, aren't they? ;)
DeleteYay Steve! That is exciting! I live that picture of Sam and your mom :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a rare photo where Sam looked at me AND smiled! Success! LOL
DeleteOMG you and mom are twins. I love it. And a big congrats to Steve, that really is an honor. Can't wait to be sister-wives, minus the husband sharing.
ReplyDeleteShe is going to love hearing that. ;) Looking forward to sharing that duplex!
DeleteAlso, thank you, I will take that as a compliment because I think she's beautiful and hope I grow up to look half as lovely! ;)
DeleteAww congratulations!! That is so exciting!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and your hubby! And it's always sad when mom leaves. You'll make it through, just keep that wine handy and ACCEPT when people offer help.
ReplyDeleteYa know, at my baby shower for Sam, guests were asked to write down parenting advice on notecards for me and I got lots of sentimental "enjoy the moment" type responses. This, by far, is much more helpful than anything I got there. Thank you. :)
DeleteGood luck without your mama there. I know having help means wonders but your super woman. You can manage a toddler and a newborn while the hubby plays Army. Lol. =)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thanks! We're going to take it slow and see what we're capable of before we go doing anything too crazy! lol
DeleteMy mom always (well all two times) wants to treat me to new clothes when she comes down to see the newest babe. Clothing shopping 15 minutes after you have a baby is always fun.. especially when said baby and big brother are both in tow crying through all the stores.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is an experience I won't soon forget. The thought is nice, for sure, but "browsing" with small people is never a good idea.
Deleteawe congrats! :)
ReplyDelete-wHiT
Thank you! :)
DeleteI love love love your blog posts!! We could so be 'real' life friends too :)
ReplyDeleteYour mum sounds like an absolute blessing of a mum, I am very envious, hold her tight!
Congrats to your husband, well done!!!
Now enjoy that bunny ;)
The bunny was definitely enjoyed!! HAHA!! I'll pass along the congratulations to Steve. :)
DeleteAnd my mama- well, I hope I can be at least half the mama she is!! :)
Congrats Steve!
ReplyDeleteMolly is precious & growing like crazy :)
Cute picture of Sam & his grandma (sorry I don't remember what y'all actually call her)
I have confidence that you will be fine :) call if you need to vent though.
Thank you :) You know you'll probably get a crazy text or two! LOL
DeleteI'll tell Steve you said congrats! :)
First of all... Is there anything much better than areester bunny?? There are a few.. But not many things. Secondly, congrats to you both on the promotion!! Its so great to toss that butter bar! Ahhhh! Hopefully things come a little easier to him but I would venture to say that won't come too much in the next 2 years. Too debby downerish?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, my heart is bleeding for you with all this early morning stuff. Have we chatted enough to make you feel comfortable sending me your address? I promise I just want to send you a little something and not coming to stalk you're family out anything crazy!
Congratulations and good job and high five and all that to Steve. Congratulations to you too for surviving the year and a half! ;) Sam is looking quite adorable! Those cheeks!!
ReplyDeleteI'll pass along the congrats to Steve! :)
DeleteYes, Sam can definitely turn on the charm when he wants to.. ;)
Congratulations on the promotion! As for babies awake at inopportune times...
ReplyDeleteI always noticed when I was pregnant that the baby seemed to start kicking as soon as I lay down to rest. I always figured that, during the day, while I was up and moving around, baby was being rocked and slept, but when I rested, she woke up! Inconvenient, true, but sweet nonetheless. And that habit lingers in the early weeks of life until they learn that dark is for sleeping, which, I think, is best accomplished by keeping the world dark, tucking baby under my chin, and at least pretending to sleep. :-)
And I think, too, with such a great role model of a mama to emulate, you are going to do just fine.
Lots of love and happy Sunday!
Yes! I always felt her kicking as soon as I laid down at night. ;) She has done well so far though and I am thankful that she's only up those two hours, and even then, not screaming her head off! :)
DeleteThanks for the prayers and I'll pass on the congratulations to Steve. :)
What an amazing accomplishment!!! Congrats Dignazio Family!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll pass that along to Steve! :)
DeleteCongrats to Steve! That is wonderful!! And congrats to you too for supporting him and making it through that crazy year and a half!
ReplyDeleteGotta love moms! I love when mine come to visit. I never ask her to do any chores but she ends up doing it all and keeping a smile at the same time. You're right, they really are saints!
Only saints could step in and do work like that while they're on "vacation". ;)
DeleteAnd thank you! I'll pass along the congrats to Steve! :)
I've already requested that my mom just move in with me for like the first 18 years. Seems reasonable, right? And congrats to your husband!
ReplyDeleteMy mom told me that her mom came and stayed with her for a week with each of us when we were babies. So she figured she'd stay a week with me. I explained to her that that was 25 years ago. With inflation and such, she needs to stay for AT LEAST a month or two.
DeleteWell lookie there.. congrats to both of y'all for the promotion.. him for obviously being promoted, and you for going through all that extra time with Sam while he worked. :) I just don't get it though, Sam looks so sweet in that last picture! Bahaha, p.s. you look good girl. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are too sweet!! Thank you :)
DeleteDon't forget- looks can sometimes be deceiving... LOL Kidding... he *is* sweet. ;)
Congrats on the promotion Mr. Jennifer! haha He probably won't appreciate that. Sorry. Anyway, I remember J anxiously coloring in his yellow bar with black Sharpie before work because he forgot to buy the 1st Lt. rank at the store. haha Ya make do.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I can talk my mom into living with us. Hmm.
That is hilarious!!! Steve was supposed to be promoted last month, but someone lost the paperwork or didn't put him on a list or I DON'T KNOW BUT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, so we ended up being prepared! Woohoo!
DeleteAnd if you can talk your mom into living with you, I will need you to remember exactly what you said so that I can run it by my mom too pleaseandthankyou. :)
trying to leave you a comment.....we will see if it works this time.
ReplyDeleteHey! It did! :) Following you now! :)
