Second Baby update

11.14.2011

This past Friday I had my 20-week ultrasound. If I understand correctly, that is the only ultrasound I will get unless something goes super-wrong with this baby, which is strange. I had this exact insurance with Sam and I seemed to get ultrasounds all the time, willy-nilly.
Can't find the heartbeat easily enough after 0.2 seconds of sticking the wand on my stomach? Break out the ultrasound!
Can't tell if that's a bum or a brain? Ultrasound!
But here? They are very strict. Also? Too lazy to fill out paperwork in order to secure more ultrasounds. Oh well.

S/he looks well. The ultrasound tech didn't tell me much about Second Baby, other than pointing out his/her legs, arms, brain, heartbeat, etc. I will go in for a regular appointment on the 16th to hear the "results" of the ultrasound. The tech thought it was cool that we weren't finding out the gender and then said that she really couldn't tell anyway because of the position the baby was in. (Facing my BACK, of COURSE.) She did manage to get some really creepy front face pictures somehow though and I have to admit that I would just rather wait and see those things after birth. Worthy of nightmares, for sure.

S/he also had the hiccups, which I could actually feel since the tech was pressing down on me the entire time. I'll admit that I haven't felt much movement at all during this pregnancy. I'm not sure if it is because the focus is shifted elsewhere (SAM) or because this kid is just not high-energy. I'm sort of banking on Option Two and hope that s/he is chill and go-with-the-flow-like. I am enjoying the not-feeling-every-movement time now though, because I know that as space becomes harder to find, I will be feeling every little twitch this tiny person has.

Steve has had a 4-day weekend this weekend and it has been amazing. With him being out in the field so much, we are really enjoying all this time together. Sam LOVES having his daddy play with him and feed him and make truck noises with him, and I LOVE having Steve change some poopy diapers. He also got to come to the ultrasound and now feels that Second Baby is indeed, a reality. So we've been scouring the internet the past few days looking for the Safest And Most Reliable Yet Not Red Carseat, a double stroller that will work for a toddler and infant that is NOT a side-by-side, and a new crib for Sam (since Second Baby will be inheriting all of Sam's baby things).

I scored a bike trailer that can convert into a jogging stroller off of Craigslist for $45 yesterday and can't wait to use it. It's orange (duh) and can easily fit Sam and Second Baby (once Second Baby gets much older). For now, it will most likely house Sam and Odie since Odie is not the running type. She will be quite content to ride along in a chariot with her human counterpart. (Fear not, pictures will DEFINITELY be taken to document this.)

Also? I had to turn on the AC last night out of fear that my BABY was going to sweat through his sheets during the night. THE AC. IN NOVEMBER. I don't think I need to tell you what is wrong with this picture. All I can say is that our next duty station better be further north. MUCH further. I'm ok with Alaska.

OMG we went out on a ride today and she totally SAT ON TOP of Sam. So next time I think she'll have to ride in the back compartment. LOL She seemed to really enjoy herself but Sam wasn't a happy camper. ;)

  3. I read this, and all I want to comment on is your awesome find! Bike trailer converting into jogging stroller?! Very sweet. Look forward to seeing pics. Obviously, you can tell where my head is at - getting fit and not having more babies. ;) But of course, I am VERY happy for you! Ultrasounds are fun and freaky all at the same time. Keep us posted!

I am a HUGE sucker for deals on craigslist (or at yardsales, or at thrift stores...) and couldn't pass that up! I will definitely have pictures soon. :)
